LES JARDINS GAMELIN
From May 30 to September 29
A diverse, culturally rich, festive living space - 100% Montreal!
A diverse, culturally rich, festive living space !
Les Jardins Gamelin is a remarkable downtown public-space revitalization experiment in the Quartier des Spectacles. With a focus on inclusiveness and peaceful cohabitation, the space features a uniquely welcoming setup, notable for its human scale and free programming reflecting Montreal’s incredibly rich and diverse arts scene. The space is designed to be a lively, enjoyable living space – an ideal place to make the most of the warm season. It comes as no surprise that thousands of Montrealers and visitors have adopted Les Jardins Gamelin as a place to gather, have fun and relax.
In the spring of 2015, Place Émilie-Gamelin showed a new face to Quartier des Spectacles residents and visitors with Les Jardins Gamelin, open from May to September. The initiative is produced by the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership in close collaboration with organizations that play a key social outreach role. The borough of Ville-Marie, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal, Sentier Urbain, the Société de développement social and Cactus are among the organizations that help make this important downtown location an appreciated destination.
ALWAYS HAPPENING IN THE JARDINS
La maison jaune
Spend some quality time with the family
La Maison jaune welcomes kids from infancy to age 12 – the little yellow house is designed just for them. An experienced monitor leads games, crafts and creative workshops on themes related to the Jardins and the activities found there.
Outside the Maison jaune, there are shaded spaces for relaxing, as well as hopscotch, beanbag tossing, construction sets and a self-serve mini-library.
It’s never been easier to entertain the whole family!
Commune with nature in the heart of the city
Once again this summer, the Sentier Urbain organization will be in charge of greening Les Jardins Gamelin. Visit any of the seven theme gardens and the butterfly tent, and harvest seasonal vegetables from the participatory gardens. Drop in at the greenhouse to chat with Sentier Urbain’s gardeners/popularizers. Feel free to ask them anything you’d like to know about the dozens of plant and flower species in the gardens. They can also offer great gardening advice.
Whether you’re an accomplished gardener or an absolute beginner, you can learn interesting things with Sentier Urbain’s free workshops and lectures on urban agriculture and environmental issues. Thanks to this project and its 100% social focus, it has never been easier to commune with nature in the heart of the city.
Sentier Urbain is a non-profit organization whose mission is to foster greener communities. Its activities make ongoing, tangible contributions to individual eco-responsible action, environmental awareness, socio-professional advancement for young people, and the beautification of living spaces. With its many partners, Sentier Urbain contributes to improved health and quality of life in local communities.
