La grande rentrée du Quartier latin : 3 days of parties to welcome students back to class

Press release | For immediate release

Montreal, September 8, 2022 – Today marks the beginning of La grande rentrée du Quartier latin, the back-to-school event on September 8, 9 and 10 on pedestrianized Saint-Denis St between Sainte-Catherine East and Sherbrooke St. . This ambitious inaugural edition of the free event is an initiative and a production of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership and the Société de développement commercial (SDC) du Quartier latin in collaboration with the Université du Québec à Montréal, Cégep du Vieux Montréal and the Cinémathèque québécoise. The project is made possible by the financial support of the Gouvernement du Québec and the Ville de Montréal.

For three days, from noon to night, La grande rentrée du Quartier latin presents a cultural program developed by and for students. Nearly a hundred students from UQAM, the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, Concordia University and Cégep du Vieux-Montréal will present dance, improv and short films. There will also be live music, circus acts and roving performances. Come join the party – the Quartier Latin is going to be hopping!

STARTING TONIGHT, IT’S PARTY TIME!

In Les Jardins Gamelin at 6 p.m., La grande rentrée du Quartier latin gets underway with Le party de la grande rentrée. The next evening features the Nocturne du Quartier latin overnight from September 9 to 10, and Le Grand Jam de la rentrée closes the event on September 10!

“We are delighted to see La grande rentrée du Quartier latin become a reality. It is the first cultural project resulting from the Comité Quartier latin’s action plan, initiated by the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership. This event is the product of an exceptional collaboration with the SDC du Quartier latin and local stakeholders, who share the common goal of revitalizing and energizing this historic neighbourhood. There’s no better time than the start of the fall semester for getting together and celebrating this lively student district! I invite all Montrealers and visitors to join the Quartier Latin’s 50,000 students for this big party,” said Monique Simard, chair of the board of directors for the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership.

“I am proud of the work of everyone involved in organizing this event, which will be an essential part of the fall semester in Montreal for years to come. La grande rentrée du Quartier latin caps an exciting summer and will, through its programming, showcase the neighbourhood’s cultural and festive character,” said Frank Subra, executive director of the SDC du Quartier latin.
