Information on the activity

September 10, 2022 | 19 H

Starting at 7 p.m., three percussion groups will wander along Saint-Denis Street. The public will be able to follow the infectious beats of Kumpa’Nia between Sainte-Catherine St. and De Maisonneuve Blvd.; the Brazilian beats of Le Bloco will take over at 7:20 p.m. as far as Ontario Street; and at 7:30 the Zuruba samba band will have everyone dancing all the way to Sherbrooke Street.

Kumpa’Nia

Kumpa'nia is a joyful troupe of roving, festive percussionists! Summer and winter, indoors and outdoors, day and night, in spontaneous or choreographed mode, Kumpa'nia warms hearts and gets bodies moving. Since its inception in 2002, Kumpa'nia has performed more than 1,400 times at festivals and themed events of every scale, including Juste pour Rire, the Festif de Baie-St-Paul, the Quebec City Carnival, the Montreal Pride parade and Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa.

O Samba de verdade | Le Bloco

LE BLOCO is Quebec's first samba bateria!

The group is inspired by the baterias of the great samba schools of Brazil. It seeks to reproduce in Quebec the effervescence and groove that animate Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo before and during the carnival.

LE BLOCO is the life of the party everywhere it goes.

Zuruba

Zuruba: a true big band in the style of Afro-Brazilian percussion groups.

This performance is an explosive blend that will transport you, for an evening, to the heart of a Brazilian carnival.

Zuruba has performed at numerous major events including the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, the Saint-Jean-Baptiste parade, Canada Day, Les Francos de Montréal, Festival Juste pour Rire, the Grey Cup, the Formula 1 Grand Prix and many more.

Like a chameleon adapting to its surroundings, Zuruba reconfigures itself for all kinds of events: from 3 to 92 musicians, with or without dancers, fire breathers, jugglers, stilt-walkers and circus artists.

After several international trips, Martin Bonin, the ensemble’s artistic director and orchestra leader, founded Zuruba to capture the world’s thousand and one colours.
