Ten new video projections by emerging artists light up the Quartier des Spectacles this fall
Montreal, October 8, 2026 – The Quartier des Spectacles Partnership is pleased to present the third edition of Lumière sur la relève, a series of video projections showcasing the talent of up-and-coming digital artists from Montreal and across Quebec. Running until November 1, the 2026 edition features ten original works presented on the façades of Édifice WILDER | Espace danse, the Grande Bibliothèque, UQAM’s Président-Kennedy and Design buildings, and the walls outside Saint-Laurent metro station.
Following a call for proposals, the works were selected by a jury of cultural and digital-art professionals. The ten pieces offer ten unique perspectives on our era. Nature and the environment, heritage, memory, city life, technology, contemplation and imagination are explored in works that testify to the immense talent of the new generation of digital artists. The ten artists and teams of artists are Isaak Paul-Rivest, Cyril Donard, Amjad Jarrar, Marius Cousin and Olivier Basquin, Marwan Sekkat, Ema J. Gasamagera, Hugh Durnford-Dionne and Max Shoham, Catherine Bégin, Arkhad x LT x stereograf and Tara Rose Morris.
With this year’s Lumière sur la relève, the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership once again fulfills its mission of introducing the public to the talent, boldness and diversity of our artistic community. The extension of the event to all available projection surfaces makes it possible to showcase a larger number of artists this year.
Ten talents and ten unique experiences to discover
Serpent et échelles – Cyril Donard | façade of Édifice WILDER | Espace danse
A playful, animated, frenetic reimagination of the classic game. Snakes, ladders, shortcuts, traps and unexpected entities come together to create a world full of surprises.
Synecdoque, Édifice WILDER – Hugh Durnford-Dionne and Max Shoham | façade of Édifice WILDER | Espace danse
By making the building’s walls slide symbolically, this series of animations piques the viewer’s curiosity and transforms the building into a microcosm of Montreal life.
SOULSTICE II – Arkhad x LT x stereograf | façade of UQAM’s Pavillon Président-Kennedy
A journey across the universe with both spiritual and scientific elements, from the Big Bang to the emergence of life, with the recurring theme of souls, symbolizing universal oneness.
Tile Codes – Amjad Jarrar | façade of UQAM’s Pavillon Président-Kennedy
This installation is a large-scale transposition of patterns seen in traditional Palestinian coloured concrete tiles. By projecting the patterns on a contemporary building façade, the work helps preserve this heritage.
Belvédère– Marius Cousin and Olivier Basquin | wall outside Saint-Laurent metro station
In a post-apocalyptic landscape inspired by the view from the lookout on Mount Royal, small raccoons go about their daily routine in a city being reclaimed by nature.
Fragment urbain – Ema J. Gasamagera | wall outside Saint-Laurent metro station
A three-part work with elements of abstraction, moving silhouettes and Montreal cityscapes, all linked by the Rubik’s Cube.
Flânerie Sylvestre – Marwan Sekkat | façade of UQAM’s Pavillon de Design
A contemplative stroll where trees, leaves, birds and clouds meet in a dreamscape with a glitch aesthetic, opening a dialogue between the serenity of nature and the fragility of ecosystems.
Lucid(e) – Catherine Bégin | façade of UQAM’s Pavillon de Design
With its video captures and generative processing, this work invites us to slow down and pay attention to the sensations, textures, lighting and discreet beauty of the living things all around us.
O₂ – Isaak Paul-Rivest | façade of the Grande Bibliothèque
Inspired by the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and the Solarpunk sci-fi aesthetic, this work imagines futures in which life and urban architecture are integrated, inviting us to ponder biodiversity and the regeneration of our environments.
UNDERSKY – Tara Rose Morris | façade of the Grande Bibliothèque
A futuristic and historical reconstitution of oceanic flora and fauna that imagines life on Earth long after humanity has left for the stars.
An unveiling event with the artists
The public is invited to accompany the artists on a vernissage walk on October 15. Starting in Place des Festivals, the event will move between the different building façades and introduce the works, the artists and their inspirations.
