Tile Codes is a moving design installation that transforms the traditional Palestinian craft of colorful cement tiles—now in decline—into a monumental and luminous architectural experience. These tiles were once widespread throughout the Mediterranean region, with each region adding its own distinctive tools, techniques, and patterns. Introduced to Palestine during the construction boom of the 1920s and 1930s, these intricate and carefully designed floors became a central feature of residential architecture. However, due to shifting economic markets and changing realities, this once-thriving craft has become extremely rare, with only a handful of tile factories still in operation today. This project digitally preserves these geometric patterns by projecting them onto modern urban facades, in order to celebrate and perpetuate this heritage.
