Synecdoque, Édifice WILDER by Hugh Durnford Dionne et Max Shoham as part of Lumière sur la relève 2026

View schedule

When walking through downtown Montreal, it’s easy to find yourself looking up at the immense buildings towering over you and wondering what’s really going on behind their windows. These gigantic structures shape our urban landscape, but they prevent us from seeing what’s happening inside.

Synecdoque, Édifice WILDER is a series of large-scale animations that playfully slide back these architectural walls to reveal an unexpected dynamic within the interior spaces. The aim of this work is not to literally guess what is happening in these specific rooms, but rather to use the building as a microcosm—a synecdoche—of life in Montreal as a whole.
