Call for proposals
MULTIDISCIPLINARY COMPETITION AIMING AT THE DEVELOPMENT AND ANIMATION OF THE PUBLIC PLACE BY THE CREATION OF A PARTICIPATIVE WORK AND ARCHITECTURAL PROJECTIONS ON THE THEME OF CELEBRATION.
The Quartier des Spectacles Partnership opens its call for submissions for the Luminothérapie 2019-20 competition marking the initiative’s tenth annual edition. Its objective is to, as much, offer to the Montrealers an original and participative winter experience at the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles, as to stimulate the creativity in the field of the temporary public art installations activated by digital technology.
Creators from all disciplines are invited to explore the theme of celebration!
To mark the first ten years of the winter event, up-and-coming and established creators are invited to imagine an auditory, luminous and participatory installation for the Place des Festivals, freely inspired by the theme of celebration. Participants must also propose architectural projections for two nearby buildings: UQAM’s Président-Kennedy building and the Wilder Building – Espace danse.
The primary work must inspire a sense of wonder both day and night and encourage active public participation, encouraging people to move, meet, talk and have a shared experience in a festive setting.
From November 28, 2019 to January 26, 2020, Montrealers and visitors will be invited will be invited to enjoy Montreal’s winter in the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles by exploring the bold, immersive work presented for Luminothérapie.
THE COMPETITION
The competition includes two stages of selection:
- the first stage is made on the basis of files of anonymous application
- the second stage consists of a paid performance by the five selected finalists in front of the jury.
The jury favors the projects which incite the mixing of points of view by the meeting between various disciplines: the design, the performing arts, the visual or media arts, etc. The total production budget is $325,000.

Submission | Wednesday April 25, 2018, noon Montreal time.
This Canada-wide competition is anonymous and there is no registration fee. It’s opened to designers and teams of which one of the designers has his main home or head office in Canada.
The call for proposals for Luminothérapie is Quebec’s largest competition for temporary public art installations. The goal of this multidisciplinary competition is to produce an original winter-themed participatory experience in the Quartier des Spectacles and to stimulate creativity in the field of temporary public art installation activated by digital.

THE JURY
A seven-member jury will select the four finalists and the winner:
