Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan, a symbol of the renaissance of the Quartier des spectacles, is opening after ten years of ceaseless effort.
On June 29, the historic Blumenthal Buliding became the new headquarters of the Festival international de Jazz de Montréal, after having been abandoned since 2003.
The new facility is a permanent home for the international promotion, exhibition and broadcasting of jazz and musical performance. Highlights include L'Astral, a new multifunctional performance hall; Le Balmoral, a bistro with a terrasse along the new Place du Quartier des spectacles; and a centre for the audiovisual documentation, conservation and preservation of the Festival's musical heritage, including exhibition halls, that is freely accessible to the public.
