Sixty participants from the 14 member cities of the LUCI Association (Lighting Urban Community International) participated in the LUCI - Montreal Under the Microscope colloquium, organized by the City of Montreal in collaboration with the Quartier des spectacles Partnership and the MONTREAL HIGH LIGHTS Festival from February 25 through 28.

Montreal's ingenious, creative and audacious lighting projects were at the heart of the discussion during the colloquium. The conference addressed themes such as the City of Montreal's urban lighting policy, the Old Montreal and Quartier des spectacles lighting plans, the use of light by Montreal festivals -- such as MUTEK, Just for Laughs, and the MONTREAL HIGH LIGHTS Festival -- and the creative expertise developed by local enterprises like Moment Factory, Lightemotion, Photonic Dreams and the Society for Arts and Technology.

During their stay in Montreal, the colloquium participants had the chance to visit the "Lighting Up the Gésu" exhibition, and to take part in the inauguration of the Cinémathèque québécoise lighting project that illuminates Montreal's museum of the moving image. Many joined Montreal's local night owls during the 6th All-Nighter of the MONTREAL HIGH LIGHTS Festival, and chose from among other unique Montreal and Quebec activities.

The organizers of the colloquium, proud of the event's success, extended another invitation to the LUCI members: to come back in four years and see all the inspiring projects that will be realized in the interim.

Stay tuned...
