On March 11th, the Quartier des spectacles Partnership submitted a memorandum to the Sud-Ouest borough council on the orientations for arts and culture in the Griffintown SPP.
The memo has three objectives: to offer expert information on arts and culture, particularly in the domain of performance; to present the Partnership’s perspective on the planned performance hall for Griffintown; and to suggest ways and means of developing an alternative that will enhance the area’s true spirit.
Audience figures show a stable level of performance attendance in Montreal, which has held steady for the past several years. The Partnership holds that this data demonstrates that a new hall would risk upsetting the equilibrium of Montreal’s performance ecosystem, and requests that a market study be carried out. The Partnership also suggests that the Sud-Ouest borough council specify and improve the artistic and cultural aspects of the Griffintown SPP to encourage a major recreational, tourist and cultural project, in order to enhance the past, present and future of Griffintown as a manufacturing, industrial and digital centre.
