Co-founder of Spectra Scène (now L’Équipe Spectra) and the Festival international de jazz de Montréal (FIJM), of which he was also artistic director for many years, André Ménard has played a key role in the live show and concert production business for almost 50 years. As Vice-president and General Manager of the L’Équipe Spectra venues, he oversaw the Spectrum and Métropolis for 25 years, hosting Miles Davis, Metallica, Michel Rivard and myriad others. As early as 1987, André Ménard envisioned an ambitious project to bring together concert venues and all the artistic vitality at the city’s core. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership from 2003, the year of its creation, to 2019. His contribution is marked by his genuine modesty, open-mindedness and spirit of collegiality.
An avid festival-goer, André Ménard attends more than 300 concerts and cultural events around the world every year. During his myriad press trips abroad, he serves as a proud advocate of Montréal and the unique place that the Quartier des spectacles has carved out for itself in the cultural life of the city. His passion for music and his innate ability to spot new talent have propelled the FIJM to world-class status, attracting iconic artists and huge crowds from all over the world.
Throughout his career, André Ménard has received numerous accolades from the cultural, academic and media worlds. He is a Companion de l’Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec, an Officer of the Order of Canada and an Officer of the Ordre de Montréal.
