Summer Tuesdays: "Downtown Screenings Under the Stars"

IN PLACE DE LA PAIX, IN THE QUARTIER DES SPECTACLES

Press release - For immediate release

Montreal, June 9, 2016 – Once again this summer, the Society for Arts and Technology [SAT] invites Montrealers and visitors to Downtown Screenings Under the Stars, presented in Place de la Paix. Every Tuesday from June 14 to September 6 at 9 p.m., feature films, documentaries and shorts will be screened for free in collaboration with the borough of Ville-Marie and the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership.

The Downtown Screenings Under the Stars series includes 13 screenings presented in association with as many partners from the city’s film community. This 11th season starts on Tuesday, June 14 with the documentary Le commerce du sexe by Ève Lamont. In the film, co-produced by Les Productions du Rapide-Blanc and the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), the director asks who profits from the sex trade, which thanks to the Internet has gone global and become an organized industry.

After the screening, there will be a discussion with the Ève Lamont and Eliane Legault-Roy from the board Concertation des luttes contre l'exploitation sexuelle (CLES).

Each week, check out Montreal’s most eclectic and adventurous open-air movie night! After last year’s success, SPASM returns with another night of old-school fun, inviting movie lovers to see the 1985 hit The Goonies by Richard Donner – get ready for a night of big laughs and fond memories!

The other programming partners for the series are Fantasia, the Montreal First Peoples’ Festival, Festival de films Cinémania, the Montreal International Black Film Festival, Prend ça court!, Kino, Film Pop and the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma.

Every Tuesday, that week’s programming partner will be a guest on the Catherine et Laurent radio show, broadcast live on CIBL (101.5) from 4 to 6 p.m. from Monday through Thursday.

In addition to films, the SAT has invited Dérapage to present 13 works on the façade of Hôtel Zero 1. Every Tuesday, a different architectural video projection will be shown, adding extra spice to the evening.

Starting July 5 at 6 p.m., skateboarders are invited to Skate Jam Tuesdays (starting at Come check out the pros in action or join in!

Skate Jam Tuesdays are the result of an initiative by the SAT, the Quartier des Spectacles and the borough of Ville-Marie aimed at revitalizing Place de Paix. Thanks to this collaboration, skateboarders are now allowed to use this public space and organize gatherings there. The successful initiative has led to a more interesting and diverse mix of users in Place de la Paix.
