RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR IN THE QUARTIER DES SPECTACLES

Montreal, December 13, 2023 – Montrealers and visitors are invited to mark the arrival of 2024 on December 31 with a free program of festive outdoor activities in the Quartier des Spectacles! Ring in the New Year with concerts at the Noël dans le Parc festival, DJ sets to get the skaters dancing on the Esplanade Tranquille rink, shows for kids and adults at the Great Montreal Christmas Market and the dazzling lights of Luminothérapie.

LIVE MUSIC WITH NOËL DANS LE PARC

Place Émilie-Gamelin
4:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.

La veillée du jour de l’an d’la Place Émilie Gamelin returns as part of the 30th edition of the Noël dans le parc festival! The party starts at 4:30 p.m. with live music running the gamut from rock with Les frères Lemay and world music with Les Tireux D’roches, to traditional Québécois folk with Nicolas Pellerin et Les Grands Hurleurs and Élémât’s energetic electronic nightcap!

A WARM AND BRIGHT NEW YEAR’S EVE

Sainte-Catherine Street West
4 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Luminothérapie, comprising a series of six new cosmos-themed works, will be lit up extra late on New Year’s Eve, until 1 a.m. Sainte-Catherine St. W. will shine bright as it welcomes the public to celebrate the New Year in a warm and dazzling setting.

Esplanade Tranquille skating rink
7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The Esplanade Tranquille skating rink will also extend its opening hours to 1 a.m., for everyone who wants to make their New Year’s celebration an active one, on skates! Patins Platines will have the crowd grooving with a special musical countdown to the New Year and beyond. At the turntables, DJ Kelly will fill the air with some of the best tunes of the 90s and 00s, while DJ Nana Zen will keep skaters and dancers warm with hot Afro-Caribbean beats.

A MAGICAL SHOW AT THE GREAT MONTREAL CHRISTMAS MARKET

Place des Festivals
6 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On New Year’s Eve, the Great Montreal Christmas Market will become a gigantic dance floor to mark the arrival of 2024! The market’s layout will be rearranged to make room for bar-cabins, food trucks and two stages for the artists who will keep the crowd up and dancing all night!

GETTING TO THE QUARTIER DES SPECTACLES

  • Public transportation: the district is served by numerous bus routes and ten metro stations on the orange and green lines.

  • Cycling: there are several all-season bike paths throughout the downtown core. Bike locking stations are available at Saint-Laurent metro station, a few steps from Esplanade Tranquille.

  • Driving: in addition to street parking, there are five indoor garages open to the public.
