MAPP_MTL invites Montrealers and visitors of all ages to come enjoy original experiences that will transport them into the world of digital creativity!

Spectacular projections on the façades of the Quartier des Spectacles

Notre première mère by Leilani Shaw

On the wall of the building next to St-Laurent metro station, from September 22 to November 30 the public will see illustrations by artist Leilani Shaw on the theme of Mother Earth, produced in collaboration with animator Benoit Pic. Notre première mère explores the relationship between present-day people and the millennia-old matriarchal line of women inside all of us.

Effects of Influence by Boris Vitazek

On the façade of the Wilder Building – Espace Danse from September 22 to November 3, the mapping work Effects of Influence by activist Slovakian artist Boris Vitazek is the result of a unique collaboration between the artist and the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra. The work’s main theme is human responsibility, which was also the theme of the Art and Tech Days festival in Kosice, Slovakia, which facilitated the collaborative effort. The work’s imagery explores human hands by linking them with different tools and technologies used through the ages.

MINI_MAPP

From September 22 to November 30, on the façade of the Grande Bibliothèque, the public will see stars thanks to the mini_MAPP works, made by local artists with the collaboration of children. The program:

  • Paysages fantastiques by Marc-Olivier Lamothe (2019)
  • Un monde multicolore by Charlotte Risch (2020)
  • Une nuit d’aventure by Melissa Mathieson (2021)

Original activities for the whole family

Cyclomapping excursion with VJ Suave

On September 23 and 24 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., Montrealers can be part of an original experience after dusk: a projection and cycling excursion with artist VJ SUAVE of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The animator had the clever idea of mounting a projector on a tricycle and using the walls of the city for presenting his creations while riding through the streets. This animator’s art puts fantastical creatures on our city’s façades, creating a moment of wonderment. It's sure to delight participants of all ages.

The activity is free, but online registration is required.

La station de l'avenir

La station de l’avenir (the station of the future) is a mobile, solar-powered digital creation site, the result of a collaboration between MAPP_MTL and a pair of local studios, Gentilhomme and Robocut Studio. With friends or family, the public is invited to take part in the creation of a luminous fresco during a workshop on September 24 and 25 from 1 to 6 p.m. The resulting collaborative work will then be projected in the Quartier des Spectacles from 7:30 to 9 p.m. During the afternoon workshop, animations and drawings by members of the public will be collected. After sunset, from 7:30 to 9 pm., the projected creations will come to life and light up Balmoral and Sainte-Catherine W. streets.
