CULTURE IN YOUR BACKYARD

The Quartier des Spectacles invites residents to the inaugural edition of its big celebration of neighbourliness, presented as part of the Journées de la culture. Come to inviting Esplanade Tranquille and meet your neighbours and the cultural players who make your neighbourhood so lively.

On the program:

  • Free cultural activities: musical performances and animations, interview panel moderated by Julie Laferrière and guided tours of the Quartier des Spectacles;;

  • Exhibitions, activities and meetings with cultural players from the Quartier: Théâtre du Nouveau Monde, Orchestre Métropolitain, Agora de la danse, Maison Théâtre and MEM - Centre des mémoires montréalaises;

  • Potted tree outreach activity with Sentier Urbain;

  • Culinary demonstration and tastings with chef Gilles Tolen, in collaboration with Les Survenants and Galaxie Brasserie.

  • Sylvain Émard (dancer and choreographer)
  • Monique Simard (chair of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership’s board of directors)

Agora de la danse in The Grand salon

Get to know l'Agora de la danse and some of its team members! Take part in two activities to explore Quebec’s first permanent space dedicated to contemporary dance creation: Koros, a new way to experience dance with the magic of a VR headset, and Puzzle danse, an educational digital game for kids that’s part puzzle and part choreographic creation. L’Agora is much more than dance performances!

Budding spectator workshops:
The OM invites children ages 3 to 10, accompanied by their parents, to take part in a free and fun 30-minute workshop for budding classical music fans. Space is limited, so please click here to register.

Do you want to get into classical music, but don’t know where to start? Come take our symphonic personality test. It will help you find the concert that’s just right for you – even if you’ve never heard of Rimsky-Korsakov, Mahler or Strauss!

Can you put Montreal in a box? Sure, why not! That’s the slightly crazy challenge that the team from MEM – Centre des mémoires montréalaises has taken on as a way of showcasing their future museum. MEM’s citizen bicycles invite you to explore the mystery box. It will pique your curiosity, bring back plenty of memories and give you a sneak preview of the museum.
