AROUND THE MOUND | MADELEINE MAYO

Around the Mound is a new body of work by Madeleine Mayo that expands beyond oil on canvas to include sculptural elements and collage. Fascinated by the interplay between two-dimensional and three-dimensional material Mayo is interested in articulating the awkward and un-nameable feelings generated between the figurative and the abstract. Inspired by questions about gender, beauty, meditation and the monstrous, a diverse set of materials intermingle and flirt with ideas related to such things as craft, reading, sex and sportsmanship.

Madeleine Mayo moved to Montreal five years ago after completing her BFA at OCADU in Toronto and has since been very active in her studio at The Long Haul, working as a painter and more recently in sculpture and collage. She has lived in British Columbia, Nunavut, Ontario and Spain and has pursued an eclectic range of experiences from meditation to flamenco.
