The gasba is a reed flute played on an angle, which takes years to master. It produces a raspy, vibrating sound that is instantly recognizable and invariably associated with everyday Maghrebis life. In fact, the instrument is at the heart of the "gharbi" or "Bedoui" from which raï is derived. All this to say that band takes its name from the ancient wind instrument that symbolizes gasba music itself, which is tied to the strong, vibrant and ever-evolving tradition that has inspired artists such as Cheb Mami, Cheb Khaled, and not least of all, the Orchestre national de Barbès. Interweaving rock, reggae and flamenco with raï, Gasba always gets their audience moving.
