For the past twenty years, the militant band Buntu Continua Uhuru Consciousness, literally: Buntu person moving towards the freedom of conscience, has been hitting the world music scene by storm with their powerful, distinctive sound. With the penetrating beat of percussion instruments played with spiritual fervour, they punk-rock, hip-hop and jazz their way through their chants sung in South African indigenous languages, including Zulu, Sotho, and Xhosa.
