Information on the activity

June 2, 2023 to October 23, 2023

Robert Hengeveld is an artist and maker of things, living and working in Elmastukwek, Ktaqmkuk (Corner Brook, Newfoundland). The project explores our curious relationship to the natural world, particularly within the context of the manufactured landscape. The trees are mechanized and they periodically rotate in place. At times these actions are responsive, influenced by surrounding activity which is detected through motion sensors mounted to the base of the planters. At other times the trees breakout into collective and predetermined choreographies.

The work is presented on Sainte-Catherine Street West, at the intersection with Clark Street.
