In 19th-century Russia, Antonina Miliukova ardently pursues Piotr Tchaikovsky. Her love for “the genius” is all-encompassing and obsessive. Against all odds, the unknown young student and the great composer, gay, tyrannical and misanthropic, end up marrying. There begins a downward spiral worthy of Dostoyevskian excess for a woman who refuses to see herself as anything other than “Mrs. Tchaikovsky before God.”
