1897, Chihuahua, New Mexico. A bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz, back in Western mode after "Django Unchained") is on a mission to find the kidnapped wife (Rachel Brosnahan from "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel") of a rich businessman. But appearances can be deceiving. Especially when a notorious criminal (Willem Dafoe in his first Western) shows up at the same time, fresh from prison and hellbent on revenge against the bounty hunter who put him there.
Make no mistake: "Dead for a Dollar" is a major event. The legendary Walter Hill, in his big return to Western Territory, conjures up the entire history of a mythical genre. With its nods to film noir, his latest outing is a rip-roaring tribute to B-Western honcho Budd Boetticher. Pure enjoyment.
