LEILA ET SES FRÈRES

Hard hit by the economic crisis, the Jourablou family, crushed by debts, struggles to survive. Leila, who, as the only daughter, has spent her life taking care of her parents and four brothers, thinks to get them out of the financial impasse by starting a family business. But her father has other ideas : he will use his stash of gold, patiently accumulated, to become the new godfather of the local mafia. Against the backdrop of international economic sanctions, the compelling descent into hell of one Tehran family, caught between tradition and modernity, is lit up by the devotion and determination of its titular female character. A sprawling powerhouse of a film about personal, collective and political shortcomings in a society rife with betrayal and collusion.
