SETH'S DOMINION

Information on the activity

By Harun Farocki
Harun Farocki passed away this summer, leaving behind a body of work impressive in both its diversity (video art, cinema, installations) and its intellectual power. Rare are those artists who bring such rigour to their image-making: Farocki always questioned the political and historical dimension of images, giving even the most mundane ones an identity and a voice, thanks to the precise editing and unfailingly insightful commentary in his documentary essays. Images of the World and the Inscription of War, one of his masterpieces, may be the most striking example of his approach and thinking. How far can we go in documenting reality? That is the underlying question here, as the filmmaker confronts the 20th-century faces and archival footage that haunt him. A captivating and unforgettable film, seldom seen on the big screen.
