Galerie B-312 is pleased to present Conjuguer l’Espace au Temps | Engendrer the last exhibition in a series designed to highlight the 30th anniversary of our artist-run centre: three special exhibitions, created by artists invited to commit themselves around questions related to space and time. zipertatou was invited to organize a project with a group of children of which at least one parent is an artist. Is the profession of artist out of the norm? How do the children of artists experience or understand this reality? Accompanied by Maxime Bruneau, whom he invited to accompany him in this venture, zipertatou gives the opportunity to about ten children between 8 and 14 years old to appropriate, during the time of the project, the space of creation as a form of work and engagement.

The exhibition is specifically designed for children to allow them to perform with puppets and, above all, to have fun creating an artistic video in the space-universe of Grosse Terre Boule. To do this, a function has been assigned to each zone of the gallery: while the interior of the reproduction of the first space of Galerie B-312 at a scale of 1:2 becomes a projection room for the video, the exterior walls become tracks and paths for the movements of the characters, while the small room becomes a shooting studio with sets for their encounters. The project first takes shape with producing video extracts and recording interviews and soundtracks with young people, highlighting their concerns and their interests. These steps are not performed in front of the audience, but there is a genuine desire to show the process, as viewers have access to the ever-changing video, improved throughout the exhibition of new scenes and illustrations, at the same time as decorations, which are also subject to transformation. In addition, while waiting to be animated, the puppets made from the drawings of the young participating artists, modeled and then printed in 3D, are placed on plaster casts of hands, the very ones who traced their shape at the start. The installation, abundant and colorful, tends towards a surrealist, even psychedelic aesthetic, the artists wishing to let a chaos arise, not frightening, but astonishing as a place of action. Openness, adaptation and improvisation are privileged throughout the project in order to capture spontaneity and show the imagination of children. Thus, zipertatou and Maxime Bruneau offer young people an unprecedented chance to participate in a long-term collaboration in which the children’s world, including craft, holds a prominent place and unfolds in a complex work. Galerie B-312 invites you to come and discover this extraordinary exhibition which starts May 14 and also, to come back and see the variations until June 30.
