KUMT ARAYN! KLEZMER MUSIC AND YIDDISH LITERATURE
Information on the activity
Dates to come
Yiddish culture is undeniably part of Montreal’s DNA, the city being the adopted home of thousands of Jews, beginning in the late 19th century. Its literature and poetry relate a Montreal that is variously working class, community-based, inclusive, and modern, guarded by the immovable Mount Royal. Readings of texts in French and in Yiddish by authors including Jacob-Isaac Segal, Rachel Korn, Ida Maze, Melech Ravitch, Chava Rosenfarb, Léa Roback and Michel Tremblay will be accompanied by klezmer, a style that is alternately wistful and boisterous, though always captivating.
