The convergence of disciplines is the keystone of Alan Lake’s rich universe. A mysterious pagan feast of powerful images, somewhere between dance, live installation and sculpture, “L’effritement des parades” celebrates seeds and abundance.

Each of Alan Lake’s stage creations is the fruit of a rigorous hybrid exploration in three stages, where movement, images, visual art, and original music interact and enrich each other in a subtle alchemy. Between fable and allegory, “L’effritement des parades,” freely inspired by the myth of Persephone, goddess of the underworld, associated with the cycle of the seasons, life and resurrection, is a symbolist odyssey in which delirious imaginings, eroded ambitions and disenchanted ideals come aground. A voluptuous and exuberant dance unfolds. Is it a bacchanal, a pagan ritual, a primitive ceremony? When the parade of appearances falls away, something true and luminous emerges from these extravagant chimeras, bringing us back to the very essence of being. Strangely beautiful.
