Bird’s nest soup is a Chinese delicacy made from nests that swiftlets build with their saliva. Howard, the father of filmmaker Emily Gan, wanted to return to his home village in Malaysia to build a facility where the birds would build nests for harvest. The winner of the Emerging Canadian Filmmaker Award at Hot Docs, Gan has created a sweet, sensitive portrait of her father and his unusual project, while reflecting on questions around immigration and the cultural and symbolic legacies we leave behind.
