CHAAKAPESH
Information on the activity
Dates to come
In the fall of 2018, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal presented a trilingual (Innu, Cree, Inuktitut) chamber opera called Chaakapesh, le périple du fripon, then travelled to the far north to present it again. What’s special about this work is that it is inspired by an Indigenous legend and produced in close collaboration with Indigenous artists. Alternating between direct cinema and interviews with conductor Kent Nagano and musician Florent Vollant, among others, this documentary by Roger Frappier and Justin Kingsley goes behind the scenes of the making of a unique work – one that has particular relevance amidst the ongoing debate about cultural appropriation.
