Scenes From the Occupation in Gaza Réal. : Mustapha Abu Ali [Palestine, 1973, 12 min, num., VOSTA]
A work created from a French news report about the Gaza Strip that Abu Ali re-edited, adding additional footage and a new commentary. This is the only film produced by the Palestinian Cinema Group, a large collective of filmmakers and artists that came together in 1973 and eventually evolved into the Palestinian Cinema Institute.
Shuja’iyah, Land of The Brave Réal. : Hadeel Assali [Palestine, 2014, 5 min, num, VOSTA]
Shuja'iyah: Land of the Brave asks: when we say "Crimes Against Humanity" - what "humanity" are we talking about? Here is the humanity of the Gaza Strip in Palestine. It features footage mostly of the filmmaker's family in the summer of 2013. It is juxtaposed against a stark call for help by a journalist during the Shuja'iyah massacre in Gaza in July 2014.
Lethal Warning Réal. : Forensic Architecture [R.-U., 2019, 9 min, num., VOA]
On the 14 July 2018, in Gaza City, in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, two Palestinian teenagers climbed onto the rooftop of the al-Katibah building. A short time later the pair, Luai Kahil and Amir al-Nimrah, were killed by a missile fired from an Israeli aircraft. Forensic Architecture (FA) was commissioned by the Israeli NGO B’Tselem to investigate the circumstances of the boys’ death.
When Things Occur Réal. : Oraib Tukan [Palestine-R.-U., 2016, 26 min, num., VOSTA]
When Things Occur is based on Skype conversations with Gaza inhabitants who were behind the images that were transmitted from screen to screen in the summer of 2014. The film probes the face of mourning and grief—its digital embodiment, transmission, and representation. It asks how the gaze gets channeled within the digital realm, and how empathy travels. What exactly is viewing suffering ‘at a distance’? What is the behavior and political economy of the image of war? And who is the ‘local’ in the representation of war?
To My Father Réal. : Abdelsalam Shehadeh [Palestine, 2008, 52 min, vidéo, VOSTA]
Abdel Salam Shehadah's poetic and mesmerizing homage to the studio photographers of the 1950's - 70's. Set partly in a refugee camp in Rafah, this is a remarkable look back at fifty years of Palestinian and Arab history, through photographs, reportage and the voices of these photographers today.
