From a young age, it is conveyed to women that motherhood is central to their identity. Seen as a solution to infertility or childlessness, in vitro fertilization is a modern convenience in which we are led to believe that every attempt succeeds. However it is an experimental biomedical technology with a global success rate of only 25%.
LET’S GET YOU PREGNANT! exposes the experience of failure of in vitro fertilization from within the social, political and medical systems that place motherhood at the forefront of women’s lives. A sound installation creates a virtual conversation between 28 female participants, including the artist, who have gone through failed treatment cycles and who are not mothers. Artefacts from these cycles complete the exhibition.
Opening on February 6, 2020 at 5:30 p.m.
On February 29, 2020, from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., make the most of “Nuit blanche à Montréal” by visiting the exhibition. Mediators will be in the gallery space to present the works on display and to accompany visitors in their thoughts.
