A singing bone, an actor with a gorilla’s arm, a spiritual but unimaginative hairdresser, a policewoman whose vocabulary is as literary as it is vulgar. This rather unlikely rogue’s gallery of characters comes together in a shared quest – the quest for love. As is usually the case with Olivier Godin, the film is artisanal, playful and inventive, with plenty of knowing nods toward the audience. The timeless world of En attendant Avril is a natural fit with that of Michel Faubert, whose oral material and medieval fables are the beating heart of this astonishing film.
