COASTERS

The Coasters are the residents of Quebec’s Basse-Côte-Nord region, on the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. There are some 5,000 of them, scattered over hundreds of kilometres. Far from the big city, they live in precarious communities coping with an exodus of young people. They are francophones, anglophones and Innu, and they live in tight-knit communities where their common ground matters more than their differences. The filmmakers spent a full year with the Coasters, immersed in their unique situation and observing their ways of life, celebrating their dynamism and resilience. This little-known region becomes a character in its own right, with thousands of faces and impressive cohesion.
