BERMUDES (NORD)

French author Claire Legendre went for a trip to the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and stopped on Anticosti. Her encounters with fellow cargo-ship passengers on the journey to the island with 200 people and 150,000 deer provided the raw material for this first documentary. The film explores a culture rich with legends, shipwrecks and disappearances. Who lives on Anticosti? Are they there to escape the real world, or perhaps a troubled previous life? How do they cope with isolation? The film’s visual splendours, enhanced by bitter cold, make a fine backdrop to the islanders’ strange and surprising tales.
