NATIONAL JAZZ ORCHESTRA PRÉSENTS SONIA JOHNSON

Information on the activity

Dates to come

Sonia Johnson is an eclectic jazz singer whose repertoire comprises both standards and compositions of her own. In 2012, she won the Vocal Jazz Album of the Year Juno for Le carré de nos amours. And Triades – a collaboration with Annie Poulain and Charles Biddle Jr. – was nominated for both Juno and ADISQ awards in 2014. More recently, Sonia’s solo project Le cœur à l’endroit was shortlisted by ICI Musique.

With the NJO, Sonia will start out the evening by evoking great ladies of jazz such as Billie Holiday, Carmen McRae, and Peggy Lee, before performing pieces that spotlight collaborators Marianne Trudel, Jean-Nicolas Trottier, Luc Beaugrand, Alexandre Coté, and Jean-Pierre Zanella, as well as special guest Steven Taetz in a charming duet (Meet in Montreal) from his latest album – Drink You In.
