SMÖRGÅSBORD - DISCUSSION ART ET PREMIÈRES NATIONS

Like a Scandinavian buffet where ideas are discussed and exchanged, Place des Arts presents a series of talks about Printemps nordique.

Arvvas (a Sámi word that means to have heart in the work) is the fruit of the collaboration between joiker Sara Marielle Gaup and Norwegian bassist and singer Steinar Raknes. In the unique musical universe of Arvvas, joik (the traditional song of the Sámi people) is married to Americana. Sara Marielle Gaup and Steinar Raknes write all the songs together, mixing lyrics in Sámi and English.

At the crossroads of theatre, performance and media arts, Émilie Monnet's artistic practice revolves around issues of identity, memory, history and transformation. In 2016, she founded Indigenous Contemporary Scene (ISC), an artistic and critical event celebrating Aboriginal creation in living arts. Émilie's artistic commitment is inspired by many years of activism with Aboriginal organizations in Canada and Latin America. The child of an Anishnaabe mother and Francophone father, Émilie lives in Montreal.

Fred Ivar Utsi Klemetsen is a professional photographer of Sámi origin. His works have been awarded many times, notably by the Norwegian Pictures Association. He is also a photojournalist for the Norwegian newspaper Bergens Tidende. His exhibition called Frimas – La vie et la culture des Sâmes will be presented throughout the duration of Printemps nordique.
