Taking place on screen and on stage at the same time, this opera explores the journey of Lily, a Chinese immigrant imprisoned in the straitjacket of a strict and alienating education. She is seeking her identity. The story gradually reveals itself through the image of a lotus from which this work takes its name. The opera presents a parade of singers, dancers, instrumentalists and Chinese shadow theatre, with a sumptuous orchestration all leaned by electronic medium.
