Information on the activity

Dates to come

Founded in 2015 in Montreal, The Baba’s purpose was to share their love for Brazilian music. Besides the well-known sounds of bossa-nova, these musicians from different cultural backgrounds also embrace the new composers and styles. With a sound rooted in traditional Brazilian music they mix contemporary samba, pop, funk and jazz grooves.

The members of the quintet include Suzi Silva, Portuguese singer who grew up immersed in the Fado tradition since the age of eleven; Ivan Garzon, two-times winner of the Montréal Guitar Grand Prix in the jazz category and nominated for the TD Grand Jazz Award and the Galaxy Rising Star Award; Rivo Rabeson, jazz pianist, arranger and composer from Madagascar and a University of Montreal’s jazz program graduate; Rui Abreu, fine versatile bass player who’s making his place in the local music scene and Orest Harmatiuk, experienced drummer who has been performing in the Montreal jazz scene since the 80’s.
