A woman's life

Gabrielle, an overworked surgeon and department head, devotes herself entirely to her profession.

Her personal life suffers as a result: she spends little time with her loving husband or her aging mother, whom she cares for. When Frida, a novelist, comes to observe her department while researching a new book, Gabrielle’s meticulously ordered daily routine begins to unravel, and desire enters the picture.

Five years after her remarkable debut, Anaïs in Love, Charline Bourgeois-Tacquet returns with A Woman's Life, selected for the Cannes Film Festival’s Competition. A nuanced character study, the film combines precise direction of actors and incisive filmmaking with the almost magical vitality of Léa Drucker and Mélanie Thierry.
