As soon as night falls, let yourself be dazzled by the four video projection surfaces. Watch iconic building facades come to life with original, ad-free artistic content, 365 nights a year. And in winter, the Esplanade Tranquille skating rink turns into a fifth surface for interactive video projection on the ice!
Take advantage of these free attractions—some created locally, others hailing from far and wide—to escape the urban frenzy. Light is a signature element of the Quartier des Spectacles, and video projection supports these unique luminous artworks of digital creativity. Check out the play of colours as well as the trompe-l’œil, animations and artistic experiments projected onto city spaces—and see the night in a whole new light.
A hub for the creation and dissemination of contemporary dance in Montreal, the Édifice WILDER – Espace danse proudly boasts a main façade that was revamped in 2017. It is covered by a glass wall which, in addition to its contemporary elegance, has been specifically designed to accommodate video projections.
Dominating the eastern part of the Quartier des Spectacles, the Grande Bibliothèque is an iconic architectural landmark in the neighbourhood. A central hub of knowledge for Montrealers, it is famous for its singular, angled façade, adorned with 6,200 sheets of glass with glacier-green reflections.
The Pavillon de Design de l’UQAM is dominated by an elegant and refined façade that opens onto the city—like a giant screen eager to channel the imaginations of digital artists. Designed by architect Dan Hanganu, its luminous transparency is amplified by the subtle interplay of glass and steel.
It pierces the sky like a huge vessel in the heart of the city. Its elliptical shape, visible from several vantage points, is a real eye-catcher. At once imposing and seamlessly integrated into the urban environment, UQAM’s Pavillon Président-Kennedy features large-scale video projections on its façade, embracing its glass lines and dancing with its curves.
From November to April, the 1500-sq.m. ice rink becomes a multifunctional space—from a sliding surface to a video projection screen! Luminous digital works created by renowned artists fuse, in an interactive visual ballet, with the regular rhythm of skaters’ blades cutting through the ice.
