Located to the east of the Maison Symphonique, the Parterre is a green space that, since 2010, has bordered De Maisonneuve Boulevard West and Clark, de Montigny and Saint-Urbain streets. To the west, the grassy surface is complemented by an urban design based on the principle of the tier. The Parterre can be a restful, soothing place for city-dwellers passing through, but it’s also a dynamic space, hosting concerts and shows during major Montreal festivals. The granite platforms of the Parterre greet passers-by with a triptych of vertical sculptures, Paquets de lumière, a variation on the show by Gilles Mihalcean. The work is a legacy of the Quebec government for the 375th anniversary of the founding of Montreal.
To the north of this grassy area, you will find the small Parterre. This is also the site of the sculpture After Babel, by John McEwen and Marlene Hilton-Moore: two bronze and steel columns facing each other in an enigmatic dialogue.
