A tenth memorable season for les Jardins Gamelin
400 artists, 30 partners and 140 activities in 109 days
Montréal, September 11, 2024 - There's still one weekend of activities left at Les Jardins Gamelin, and it will reflect the strength of this 10th season, which ends on Sunday September 15, with Les Jardins d'Illusion : épilogue, Salsafolie and Productions MOND.
From May 30 to September 15, 2024, the 10th season of Les Jardins Gamelin was marked by a diversity of sounds and flavors, with more than 140 activities programmed over 109 days of continuous animation, offering a rich and diverse summer experience in a setting both inclusive and verdant. This season of Les Jardins Gamelin charmed Montrealers and visitors with a delightfully festive atmosphere in the east end of the Quartier des Spectacles.
This season is an important milestone in the history of the Jardins and has been punctuated by many memorable moments that already have us looking forward to next summer. More than 400 performers played on its stage, with shows that delighted audience members of all ages. The eclectic program was a major success, including unique sessions with emerging artists, upbeat evenings on the dancefloor with Salsafolie and 100Lux, the musical discoveries of Illusion Festival, and magical moments with Les Jardins en cabaret. Each evening was an invitation to celebrate and be amazed!
This summer, Les Jardins Gamelin benefitted from the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the borough of Ville-Marie and the City of Montréal.
A summer-long spotlight on emerging musicians !
Once again this year, Les Jardins Gamelin reaffirmed a commitment to up-and-coming local musicians. In collaboration with exceptional partners such as Les Francouvertes, Ma Première Place des Arts, Festival international de la Chanson de Granby, Festival de la Chanson de St-Ambroise, Vue sur la relève, MUZ and Syli d'Or, the Jardins showcased some of the city’s finest new artists. Each week, promising talents had the opportunity to perform for audiences who enjoy discovering new music, helping make the Jardins a powerful springboard for emerging musicians.
An inclusive living space
Thanks to the support of the borough of Ville-Marie, Les Jardins Gamelin extended onto pedestrianized Sainte-Catherine Street between Berri and Saint-Hubert streets, transforming the space into a true oasis in the heart of downtown.
The success of this tenth season also owes much to the participation of several social mediation partners. Thanks to their regular on-site presence, the organizations were able to share their expertise while helping prevent problems, raise awareness and support vulnerable and unhoused persons throughout the season. Les Jardins Gamelin benefitted from the complementary services provided by SDS - ÉMMIS, Spectre de Rue, Le Sac à dos, CCSMTL - CIUSSS Centre-Sud, the Old Brewery Mission and GRIP.
Five more wonderful evenings !
Putting a beautiful cap on the tenth season, there’s a final run of festive programming to enjoy, from September 11 to 15! On Wednesday, immerse yourself in the captivating sonic world of the WorldWild Sound System collective with Les Jardins d’Illusion (6-10 p.m.). Thursday evening, be transported by the hip-hop, bollywood and jazz sounds of Dr.Bahar and Boubé’s “desert blues”. On Friday, don’t miss the grand finale of Illusion Festival with Les Jardins d’Illusion : épilogue (5 to 11 p.m.), an evening of music, fun activities and surprises delivered in Illusion’s inimitable style. Saturday, join us for sizzling-hot dancing with Salsafolie (7 to 10 p.m.), and Sunday celebrate the last days of summer in style with Productions MOND (4 to 5 p.m.), spinning classic tunes from the 80s to the 00s.
Lastly, thanks to the team at Sentier Urbain, Les Jardins Gamelin once again provided a lush oasis full of greenery and easygoing vibes. This week marks the final chance to visit the greenhouse and thematic gardens. Last but not least, the snack bar by Les Survenants, which delighted customers all summer with its creative new menu, will be there to close out the season.
