Monique Simard receives the Ordre de Montréal
Montreal, May 16, 2024 – The Quartier des Spectacles Partnership extends its warmest congratulations to Monique Simard, the chair of its board of directors since 2019, on the occasion of her appointment today to the Ordre de Montréal at the honour’s highest rank, commander. The Ordre de Montréal is the municipal government’s highest distinction, honouring Montrealers who make noteworthy contributions to the community and to the city’s prosperity and reputation.
“Ms. Simard’s extensive managerial experience in the cultural sector and deep understanding of collaborative governance, as well as her energy, sharp intellect and love of Montreal are just some of the qualities that make her an exceptional ambassador for our city. She has been a pioneer and an important ally in the successful emergence of digital arts and creative practices,” said Éric Lefebvre, executive director of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership.
Monique Simard is an accomplished manager in the cultural sector who exemplifies versatility and deep commitment to social, political and cultural causes. Over the course of her exceptional career, she has distinguished herself as the first vice-president of the Confédération des syndicats nationaux. She is a committed feminist who has fought for pay equity, maternity leave and abortion rights. She has also served as a director for numerous cultural organizations, worked as documentary producer, directed the French-language section of the National Film Board of Canada, and was the first female president of SODEC. Previously received honours include appointment to France’s Ordre des arts et des lettres at the rank of Commandeure. She remains highly active in the cultural sector, and currently sits on the boards of La Vitrine, of the Fonds Québecor, the Quartier des spectacles international and the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership.

The Quartier des Spectacles Partnership, founded in 2003, is a non-profit organization with more than 85 members active in the district. It is responsible for animating the Quartier des Spectacles by programming cultural activities, managing and animating public spaces, providing distinctive illumination and promoting the Quartier as a must-visit cultural destination. The Partnership benefits from the support of the Ville de Montréal.
