A lively summer in the Quartier des Spectacles with around twenty festivals and events!

PRESS RELEASE | For immediate release

Montreal, May 22, 2024 – The cultural heart of Montreal will be hopping all summer with a plethora of festivals and events, starting today with the opening of Festival TransAmériques (FTA). From now until the fall, 22 major events featuring music, dance, theatre, film, literature and circus arts will invite Montrealers and visitors to make the most of summer in the public spaces and indoor venues of the Quartier des Spectacles. This summer, several high-profile events will celebrate milestones: the 35th annual Francos de Montréal, the 15th edition of MONTRÉAL COMPLÈTEMENT CiRQUE, the 25 years of ComediHa!, the 25th annual MUTEK festival and the 30th Festival international de la littérature (FIL).

“We are proud to launch the summer festival season in the Quartier des Spectacles – the cultural heart of the city will be in peak form once again. The downtown core will be energized by shows, events and crowds making the most of the amenities available in the area. It all adds up to a memorable summer. I invite Montrealers and visitors to come out and experience the cultural vitality of the Quartier des Spectacles, and to enjoy everything our downtown has to offer.” - Valérie Plante, Mayor of the Ville de Montréal and of the borough of Ville-Marie.

Festivals: drivers of cultural and economic vitality

Each week from May to the end of September will feature spectacular festival programming. Whether indoors and ticketed or outdoors and free, festivalgoers will find something for every taste, age and budget. The 22 festivals happening in the Quartier des Spectacles reflect Montreal’s rich cultural diversity and celebrate culture in all its forms.

In addition to generating local economic benefits that underscore culture’s key role in ensuring downtown vitality, these events contribute greatly to the city’s global reputation and showcase our local culture.

“The Quartier des Spectacles is the place to go for summer culture and entertainment in Montreal. From Les Jardins Gamelin to Place des Festivals and Esplanade Tranquille, for the next four months our public spaces will overflow with the excitement of festivals and events. Whether our visitors are Montrealers or tourists, first-time or regular festivalgoers, our many events offer accessible, unique, crowd-pleasing experiences.” - Monique Simard, chair of the board of directors of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership.
