La fête du Quartier: Cultural, green, delicious
In the Quartier des Spectacles on September 28!
Montreal, September 5, 2024 – The Quartier des Spectacles Partnership announces the third annual Fête du Quartier, an event presented as part of the Journées de la culture. The Fête is a party especially for the Quartier’s residents – the people who have a front-row seat to everything that goes on in the district. On September 28 from noon to 5 pm., Esplanade Tranquille will welcome visitors for a host of free artistic activities presented by several of the Quartier’s cultural partners: Théâtre du Nouveau Monde, the Orchestre Métropolitain, MEM – Centre des mémoires montréalaises, Agora de la danse, Espace St-Denis, Danse Danse, Vision Diversité and Le Balcon. Delicious food will play a central role in this fall get-gether. Marina Orsini and chef Marc Maulà will make minestrone soup during a culinary demonstration ending with the serving of free samples. Art and the environment will once again go hand in hand, as the Fête will include original performances and live music, including an appearance by Marco Calliari. The program also includes awareness-raising activities focused on greening.
A delicious party
Marina Orsini and chef Marc Maul, in collaboration with Galaxie Brasserie, invite visitors to discover an Italian classic: minestrone soup! The comforting dish will be accompanied by a coulis made using herbs grown in the Esplanade Tranquille pavilion’s rooftop garden. The culinary portion of the day’s activities will be centred on a cooking demonstration (12:40 p.m.) followed by the serving of free samples of soup and tiramisu starting at 1:30 p.m. and ending when the food is all gone.
The Quartier's partners meet the residents
In lounge areas inside the pavilion and on Esplanade Tranquille’s plaza, residents and visitors will be able to meet the cultural players who keep the Quartier des Spectacles energized. The privileged access will allow participants to discover various aspects of artistic work by attending activities such as introductory workshops for children presented by the Orchestre Métropolitain and virtual reality experiences with Agora de la danse. The citizen bicycles of the MEM – Centre des mémoires montréalaises will be back along with Théâtre du Nouveau monde, which will host a karaoke activity. Espace St-Denis will be there with two actors from the cast of La Famille Addams, while Danse Danse, Vision Diversité and Le Balcon join the party this year to present their respective programs, share details of the artistic practices they support, and hold raffles.
Performances and cultural activities to energize the party
Italian is the cuisine of honour for the culinary part of the festivities, and the musical performances will have a distinct Italian flavour as well! Italian-born singer Marco Calliari and his trio will play famous Italian songs starting at 3 p.m., while Jérémie Domenico & Francis Tétu will deliver operatic sounds at 2 p.m. The music starts at noon with Quatuor Esca.
From noon onward, buskers and flowery stilt walkers will roam the site. Children will be enjoy the face-painting booth and giant games (chess and Scrabble), as well as a creative workshop on Mignonisme where they’ll learn all about the work of Philippe Katerine through an educational booklet and have the chance to express their creativity with the artist’s Mignoniste drawings as a starting point and to create miniature Monsieur Rose figures. The afternoon also provides a perfect opportunity to learn about the district’s history and secrets with a guided walking tour of the Quartier des Spectacles led by one of our passionate guides certified by the Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec (ITHQ). A discovery trail for the Quartier’s trees in planters, presented in collaboration with Sentier Urbain, will make participants more aware of the importance of urban trees and the invaluable services they provide.
