Montreal, December 6, 2024 – With the 15th edition of LUMINO in the Quartier des Spectacles and downtown, the Esplanade Tranquille skating rink, the Noël dans le Parc festival on the Parterre and The Great Montreal Christmas Market in Place des Festivals, as well as the festivities at Complexe Desjardins, holiday magic is everywhere in the Quartier des Spectacles! Montrealers, neighbourhood residents and visitors are invited to enjoy an extensive free culture and sports program with a touch of holiday magic to make the most of the Holiday Season in the heart of Montreal, before or after a seasonal show in one of the Quartier’s performance venues.

The traditional activities and delightful shows for children have returned to Complexe Desjardins, including dance performances, choirs and face-painting for children. The program includes unforgettable fun for kids with the returning carousel and mini-train, and especially a chance to meet Santa! The multimedia show Fontaine Boréale will be shown hourly starting at 4 p.m. daily.

The Great Montreal Christmas Market

An immersive experience in an enchanting setting, the Great Montreal Christmas Market features more than 40 chalets with regional and local artisans and food and drink purveyors offering mulled wine and delicious snacks. Live music and a signature play, Noël à Montréal, will immerse visitors of all ages in the festive spirit.

The 31st edition of the Noël dans le Parc festival is going to be a festive treat, with a long list of established and up-and-coming musicians both local and visiting, and a new site featuring wonderful Christmas decorations. Highlights include La Grande nuit du Solstice d’hiver autochtone on December 21 (a celebration of Indigenous winter solstice traditions), and New Year’s Eve with St-Élie débarque en ville, a two-day extravaganza to ring in 2025.

LUMINO, the iconic Montreal winter event, presents an evolving series of exciting luminous creative works that transform the heart of Montreal into a celebration of light and creativity – a showcase for our Nordic character. Throughout the winter season, LUMINO invites the public to discover some 30 interactive, contemplative and luminous works: video projections, installations and performances, both indoor and outdoor.

Downtown Montreal’s largest refrigerated rink is free for all skaters – and the 1500 m2 rink can accommodate up to 400 of them at a time. Skates are available for rent so that anyone can enjoy the best of winter in the city and be amazed by the on-ice interactive video projection, Au bord du lac Tranquille, by Mirari and Normal studio, presented as part of the 15th edition of LUMINO, from Sunday to Thursday at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

The rink also hosts plenty of activities and Holiday programming, including: Santa Claus and his elves on skates for Le Père-Noël sait-il patiner ? on December 15 and 21 at 11 a.m. and 12:30, 2, and 3:30 p.m.; and a choir singing a festive repertoire on December 19 at 5, 6 and 7 p.m.

The Esplanade Tranquille pavilion is a warm and inviting space, open daily for free to anyone who’d like to warm up. The Pavilion is a fantastic place to get together for all kinds of activities! Spend some quiet time in the Grand Salon, featuring Christmas decorations by paper artist Pauline Loctin; enjoy free Holiday activities including Christmas cookie decorating workshops with Café La Chouette on December 7, 8, 14 and 15 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.; or watch NFB animated short films on December 27-28 and January 2-3 from 2 to 3 p.m. and 4 to 5 p.m. Plus, Café Tranquille is a super place to relax with friends. On the menu: high-quality fair trade coffee made from Café Pista beans, hot and cold drinks, and locally made sweet and savoury snacks. Vegan and gluten-free options are available.

About the Quartier des Spectacles and the Partnership

The Quartier des Spectacles is Montréal’s cultural heart.
