THE ESPLANADE TRANQUILLE SKATING RINK: AN ESSENTIAL PLACE TO CELEBRATE WINTER IN THE HEART OF THE QUARTIER DES SPECTACLES

Press release - For Immediate Release

Montreal, November 16, 2023 - The Esplanade Tranquille skating rink is open! Montrealers and visitors are invited to experience the joys of winter in a warm and magical setting, the downtown core’s largest refrigerated skating rink, open daily until the end of March, 2024. In addition to public skating, there will be plenty of free activities for all ages. Time to lace up your skates and dive into winter!

DANCING AND FESTIVITIES ON ICE WITH LE PATIN LIBRE

Saturday and Sunday afternoons, the professional figure skaters of Patin Libre will introduce skaters of all ages and skill levels to ice dancing through games and workshops – a family party on ice! On Friday and Saturday evenings, the artists and their DJ will heat up the ice with a big dance party.

Ice dance evenings with Le Patin Libre, Friday, November 24, December 1 and December 8; Saturday, November 25, December 2 and December 9 from 7:30 to 11 p.m.

Fête familiale with Le Patin Libre, Saturday, November 25, December 2 and December 9 from 3:30 to 6 p.m. and Sunday, November 26, December 3 and December 10 from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

Le Patin Libre is a Montreal-based contemporary skating company. It will present numerous festive and family-oriented performances on the Esplanade Tranquille rink, made possible by the financial support of Tourisme Montréal.

SKATING LESSONS FOR ALL AGES WITH WITH PATINAGE MONTRÉAL

The team from Patinage Montréal will teach members of the public to skate starting in early December and continuing all winter. On Sundays, children from 2 to 10 years of age and their parents are invited to have fun in the Ice Garden (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.), a playful space where kids can learn at their own pace. On Saturdays, new skating enthusiasts are invited to benefit from the tips and expertise of the instruction team (11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.).

AN INTERACTIVE SKATING EXPERIENCE

The new season for the skating rink marks the return of the interactive video projection Au bord du lac Tranquille by Montreal-based studios Mirari and Normal Studio. Sunday to Thursday (6:30 and 8:30 p.m.) and Friday and Saturday (6:30 p.m.), skaters will discover a unique interactive journey and dreamlike experience celebrating our northern life and the extraordinary richness of Quebec’s biodiversity. As people skate, their trails summon a winter tableau: their blades “cut” the ice to reveal a fascinating imaginary maritime world inhabited by aquatic and terrestrial animals as fish, whales and tortoises frolic in the skaters’ wake.

THREE MUSICAL SKATING SERIES

In addition to regular ambient music, there will be special thematic playlists with Classical Noon (Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting November 22) and Disco Fever (Saturdays from 7:30 to 11 p.m. starting November 25) – skating sessions set to classical favourites and some of the grooviest hits of the 70s. On Saturday, December 15 and 22 from 7:30 to 11 p.m., the rink will become a huge dance surface with the festive Patins platines series featuring DJs Guasa (December 15) and Lexis (December 22).

Programming for January, February and March will be announced soon.
