FOR ITS 20TH ANNIVERSARY, THE QUARTIER DES SPECTACLES INVITES THE PUBLIC TO SHARE GREAT MEMORIES

Press release | For immediate release

Montreal, February 8, 2023 — On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Quartier des Spectacles, the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership is asking all spectators, festivalgoers, Montrealers and visitors to share great memories and intense moments experienced in Montreal’s cultural heart. Their testimonials, stories and anecdotes will be used to illustrate a major anniversary exhibition celebrating the highlights of the Quartier’s first 20 years.

The exhibition will invite the public to relive and feel the essence of the Quartier des Spectacles: festive, creative, moving. Designed by Urbania, the exhibition will be presented on the Promenade des Artistes from September 13 to November 12 this year. The Partnership is seeking reminiscences from people who experienced meaningful moments in the Quartier, whether related to artists and events or of a personal nature. Additional commemorative activities will be presented throughout the year; details will be announced later.

“The Quartier des Spectacles belongs to all Montrealers. We want to make sure that all spectators, residents and visitors, and everyone who has spent time in the Quartier’s public spaces and theatres, all the people who have experienced its magic and helped bring it to life every day, are part of the festivities,” said Monique Simard, chair of the board of directors for the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership.

The Partnership has invited cultural journalist Claude Deschênes, author of the book Tous pour un : Quartier des spectacles Montréal, which recounted the history of the district on the occasion of its 15th anniversary, to be part of the call for reminiscences. “My life has been intimately linked to the Quartier. Not only have I lived here, it is a place where I have been deeply moved through art. I have watched it grow and change, and participated in major cultural and social events. I am very happy to be part of this call to the public, and I invite everyone to share their own Quartier des Spectacles memories,” said Claude Deschênes.

The public can share their memories by completing the online form. Submissions may be used for the exhibition.
