DISCOVER THE QUARTIER LATIN: TWO NEW GUIDED TOURS FOR EVERY TASTE!

Press release | For immediate release

Montreal, May 31, 2023 – The Quartier des Spectacles Partnership and the Société de développement commercial (SDC) du Quartier latin are pleased to announce two new Quartier Latin walking tours for anyone who wants to discover this cultural, historical and intellectual hub. The tours are made possible by the financial support of the Ville de Montréal. From June 7 to October 8, Montrealers and visitors, whether they are history and culture buffs or passionate foodies, will be able to choose from two enriching, entertaining experiences that reveal every facet of the iconic neighbourhood.

Free Quartier Latin guided tour: a journey through francophone history and culture

This two-hour walking tour, presented by the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership, is led by an enthusiastic professional guide certified by the Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec (ITHQ). The tour transports participants through the ages by exploring picturesque streets, historic buildings, and francophone cultural and academic institutions. From the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and Espace St-Denis to Le Bordel Comédie Club and Les Habitations Jeanne-Mance, participants will discover the neighbourhood’s well-kept secrets and fascinating stories, from its start as the intellectual capital of francophone North America to its evolution into a dynamic neighbourhood favoured by students and artists. The tour was designed by Justin Bur for the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership.

“We are very pleased to open this first season of free Quartier Latin walking tours, a project stemming from the action plan of the Comité Quartier latin, initiated by the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership. The tour is aimed at tourists and Montrealers alike, and I am certain that it will become a not-to-be-missed activity for discovering the many facets of this thriving student neighbourhood,” said Monique Simard, chair of the board of directors, Quartier des Spectacles Partnership.

For several years, the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership has offered free guided tours of the Quartier des Spectacles, highlighting iconic cultural venues, large public spaces, the ambitious Luminous Pathway and architectural gems. The free guided tour of the Quartier Latin is an excellent complement to this existing option.

Quartier Latin tasting tour

This uniquely delicious tour, designed by Guidatour in collaboration with the Société de développement commercial (SDC) du Quartier latin, offers a unique exploration of the Quartier Latin’s culinary and retail scene.

The tour includes tasting stops at four popular spots: brewpub L’amère à boire, tea room Camellia Sinensis, chocolate specialist Juliette & Chocolat and brewpub Le Saint-Bock. “The Quartier Latin is where history and modernity meet to form a dynamic and authentic francophone cultural showcase. With these new thematic guided tours, we are opening the door to a captivating voyage, where the fascinating past of this cultural hub is seamlessly united with its enticing local commercial scene. Explore the Quartier Latin with us, and be transported to places steeped in history, where you’ll discover the hidden treasures that make our neighbourhood so special.
