A NEW CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR VIDEO PROJECTIONS IN THE QUARTIER DES SPECTACLES

Press release | For immediate release

Montreal, December 7, 2022 – The Quartier des Spectacles Partnership is issuing a call for proposals aimed at involving Montreal’s creative community in the development of significant, innovative and attractive video projections to be presented in the district. Companies, artists and collectives are invited to submit their proposals until February 3, 2023. At the conclusion of the idea development process, their ideas could be presented on the video projection surfaces in the Quartier des Spectacles.

Less than a year ago, the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership acquired new laser projectors in collaboration with Panasonic for its video projection programming shown on the Édifice Wilder – Espace Dance, UQAM’s Pavillon Président-Kennedy, the Grande Bibliothèque, the walls outside Saint-Laurent metro station and the surface of the new refrigerated skating rink on Esplanade Tranquille. The call for proposals will first lead to the selection of three finalists, based on a review of the submissions. The finalists will each receive $5,000 to develop their ideas. In 2024, once the funding is complete, the three projects will be presented in the Quartier des Spectacles.

“By seeking interesting and inspiring projects to present in the district, we are working to strengthen digital-arts offerings in the Quartier des Spectacles and contributing to the discipline’s vitality. This call for proposals is intended to involve the creators from the outset and highlight their talent by minimizing constraints and focusing on ideas,” said Catherine Girard Lantagne, artistic director of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership.

JOINING FORCES WITH UQAM TO SUPPORT THE NEXT GENERATION OF DIGITAL CREATORS

The call for video projection proposals includes a requirement for teams to offer an internship or similar professional experience opportunity for students at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), introducing them to local companies. The Quartier des Spectacles Partnership and UQAM hope to encourage the creation of strong ties between the professional creative and higher education communities, with the goal of supporting the next generation of creative professionals.
