Another month of festivities at Jardins Gamelin to discover the best of Montreal's music scene

Montreal, August 15, 2024 – The tenth season of Les Jardins Gamelin is still going strong in the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles. Until September 15, Montrealers and visitors are invited to celebrate this unique and diverse living space with many dance nights and up-and-coming concerts from all musical horizons, sure to keep the summer fun going!

Electronic music and new talent take the stage at the Jardins

The summer programming in Les Jardins Gamelin continues for one more month, featuring weekly activity series every Tuesday to Sunday from noon to night. On tuesday evenings, the Donne-moi du funk ! series keeps the Jardins dancefloor sizzling hot with the irresistible grooves of Ruby Jane (August 20 and September 10) and the disco-funk-soul sounds of Funkés (August 27 and September 3). Every Wednesday evening, it's party time with the final instalments of Les Jardins d'Illusion, featuring up-and-coming local DJ collectives such as AlpaKa MuziK and Tribunion (August 21), Hidden Garden (August 28), Noreiner (September 4) and WorldWild Sound System (September 11) This new series will be capped on September 13 with a very special evening called Jardins d'Illusion : Épilogue, with a variety of activities and amazing surprises.

Thursday evenings are time to dance to a wide range of sounds, including DJ Pøptrt on August 15 as part of the First Peoples' Festival, Papish (Cohorte MUZ 2024) on August 22 and Dr.Bahar & Boubé (Syli d'Or 2024) on September 12. And to start each weekend on the right foot, the Friday evening Ce soir on danse ! series gets the Jardins crowd up and dancing to the beats of CREVLO and Sensei H (Francouvertes 2024 finalist, August 16), Arielle Roberge and Miro Chino (August 23) and Feminae Nox (August 30). Every Saturday evening, the ever-popular Soirées Salsafolie continue to delight salsa lovers, while Sunday afternoons are time to chill with Randolph and their board games and trivia, as part of a series called T’as de beaux jeux.

Musical lunchtimes and Phénoména's cabaret

Thursdays in August, Les midis à la carte provide lunchtime introductions to artists from the First Peoples' Festival: Mimi O'Bonsawin (August 15), Timothy Armstrong (August 22) and Jah Cutta (August 29). The remainder of the noontime series will have something for every taste each Thuesday and Friday : folk music with Sandra Contour (Ma première Place des arts) (August 16), pop with Bayta (August 23) and Cosmophone (August 30), the neoclassical reveries of the duo of Pur pasteur and Xavier-Charles Fecteau (September 5), the poetry of the trio Les Blondes Naturelles (September 6), the jazz of Rémi Cormier (September 12) and the indie music of Claudie Létourneau (September 13) - all sure to delight music lovers.

On Tuesday, August 20, CABARET DADA JARDINS GAMELIN V - LES HIPPIES DE LA RÉSILIENCE is the final cabaret of the season. Presented by Les Filles Électrique and Festival Phénoména, the cabaret emceed by Jacqueline Van de Geer will create a liberated and lighthearted atmosphere full of wild fun inspired by the hippie movement.

There are also plenty of family activities and entertainment in Les Jardins Gamelin. In addition to the classic giant games, kids and parents can enjoy the punching bags and seesaws on Sainte-Catherine St. East, and admire the delightful street art by Ludovic Marsolais. And, on Sunday, August 18, children will be treated to an introduction to circus arts with a workshop presented by Cirque Hors Cirque, while on Sunday, August 25, they will be amazed by a butterfly release presented by the horticulturists at Sentier Urbain.

In the spring of 2015, Place Émilie-Gamelin showed a new face to Quartier des Spectacles residents and visitors with Les Jardins Gamelin, open from May to September. A large, green and inviting civic space in the heart of downtown, Les Jardins Gamelin return every year with an original temporary layout and a versatile set of facilities. The space’s unique, accessible and human-scale programming, which has now completed five seasons, has become a part of daily life for residents and visitors, making Les Jardins Gamelin an inclusive gathering place in true Montreal style. The initiative, led by the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership and thanks to the support of the borough of Ville-Marie and numerous partners, including Sentier Urbain, the Société de développement social and the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SVPM).
